Looking to rent winter gear for backcountry skiing? How about cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or splitboarding? Look no further. We have everything you need to adventure in the white wilderness surrounding Lake Tahoe and Truckee. Click here to go directly to our backcountry gear rental page, or keep reading to learn more about all the winter gear we have for rent.

Our wide selection of alpine touring skis and nordic gear includes all the essentials for climbing, sliding, and striding. We even have telemark ski rentals for those who prefer to drop a knee on the way down, and backcountry snowboarding gear for those who would rather stand sideways. If you’re seeking a slower pace, swing by our shop in Truckee and grab a pair of the best snowshoes for walking on all types of terrain. For endurance athletes or those just looking for a quick workout walking up the ski resort’s groomed terrain, we rent skimo skis ideal for ski running and mountain racing.

Winter gear should be durable and easy to use, so we only rent out equipment that we believe in. All backcountry ski and splitboard rentals come with climbing skins and poles. Most skis and boards come with G3 skins or Black Diamond skins, although our Dynafit rental fleet includes Dynafit skins, which are trimmed to precisely fit Dynafit touring skis. As for collapsible poles, most are made by Black Diamond or MSR (Mountain Safety Research) and are fully adjustable to any height.

Rent a Backcountry Touring Package

A backcountry skiing package costs $55 per day. That package includes skis or board, bindings, skins, and poles. Click here to rent backcountry skiing equipment.

All of our equipment is also available on its own, without a package. Skis and skins are $40/day, Avalanche Beacon/shovel/probe packages are $15/day and we also have plenty of boots, packs, crampons, ice axes and all the rest.

Rent Cross-Country Skiing Gear

For XC skiing, we rent the Salomon Snowscape 7 with Salomon SNS Pilot cross-country bindings. Boots are also made by Salomon, including the Siam Pilot 7 and the Escape 7 Pilot. These are very comfortable Nordic skiing boots that can be worn all day without issue. Click here to rent cross country skiing equipment.

Rent Snowshoes

We chose to fill our snowshoe rental fleet with the MSR EVO Ascent because it comes equipped with heel risers to provide leg relief when walking uphill, and offers great traction for traversing slopes and hiking off-trail. If you’d like poles with your snowshoes, we’ll gladly include those for no extra charge. Click here to rent snowshoes.

Rent Avalanche Safety Equipment

Avalanche safety equipment rentals cost $15 per day, including a beacon, shovel, and probe. If you already have a beacon and probe, rent just a beacon (aka transceiver) for $10/day. Click here to rent a beacon, shovel, and probe.

We also rent AT ski boots, climbing skins, ski crampons and boot crampons, canisters for avalanche airbag backpacks, ice axes, and backcountry backpacks. Click here to rent any of these items.
