Hydro Flask Insulated Bottle – Keeps Hots Hot and Colds Cold!

October 4th, 2012 By

This review comes from Meaghen Rafferty, an adventure junkie residing on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. Meaghen regularly contributes to the success of Tahoe Mountain Sports through many different avenues, and we thank her for being awesome.

After reading the hype printed on the Hydro Flask Bottle, there seemed to be a claim that needed to be put to test. I am a big water drinker. When I’m not consuming coffee, I almost always have a bottle of water around. If there is one thing that drives me crazy it’s reaching for my bottle and finding water that is warm and not refreshing (Yuck!).

Keep your hots HOT and your colds COLD

Hydro Flask’s claim to fame is that their bottle stays cold for 24 hours and hot for up to 12. Their flasks are constructed of double-wall vacuum stainless steel, and they stand by their product so strong that they guarantee them for 100 years, or the rest of your life. Now that’s a lifetime guarantee!

Well, the first time I used my bottle I filled it with ice and water and went to sleep. I woke up in the middle of the night, and low and behold, my water was still ice-cold. Not so much a world record but still more than I can say for any other bottle or cup. The real shocker came when I left the bottle in my room and went to work for the day. The next night I reached for the bottle to refill it…there was still ICE in it! More than 24 hours later and not only was my water cold but the ice had not even melted.

The main reason this bottle can stay cold and hot for so long is because it doesn’t transfer temperature through the walls of the bottle. This keeps the bottle from sweating, and even prevents your hand from getting cold. The fact that I can use this bottle with hot or cold beverages and keep them with me all day without noticing much change in temperature amazes me. I can leave it in my hot car and still find it cold hours later, or forget about my coffee on my desk for hours on-end and come back to hot liquid. This is why I have a wall of water bottles at home, yet I consistently reach for my Hydro Flask.
